Introducing
TAEL (Terrain-Aware Evaporation Lag) algorithm.

Released: April 14, 2026

Weather apps are lying to you. They see 18°C and a clear sky and tell you the trail is dry. But as every local pro knows, the ground has a memory. Today, we introduce the TAEL (Terrain-Aware Evaporation Lag) algorithm, the first photonic intelligence model for tactical cycling.

The latest update to the check_trail_soil_condition tool now accounts for the "Shadow Lock" effect: the phenomenon where north-facing slopes and deep valley sectors remain saturated for days, regardless of the ambient temperature.

The Challenge: The Thermal Icebox

Traditional mud models only look at rainfall. BikeScout now looks at Energy. By integrating pysolar, we calculate the exact altitude of the sun relative to your trail's coordinates at the moment of the request.

If the solar altitude is below 20°, the drying efficiency of the atmosphere drops by up to 60%. This creates a "Thermal Icebox", a state where moisture is trapped in the soil texture because the photonic energy is insufficient to trigger evaporation.

The Innovation: The TAEL Algorithm

Our new TAEL model cross-references three critical data streams: 72-hour historical precipitation, geological drainage coefficients (Clay, Earth, Gravel), and real-time solar persistence.

The result is an Adjusted Moisture Index. When BikeScout detects a Shadow Lock, it applies a penalty to the drying efficiency, revealing the "invisible mud" that causes catastrophic traction loss on seemingly perfect days.

The Goal: Precision Traction

Knowing the trail is "damp" isn't enough. You need to know if the roots will act like ice. The mud_risk_score now factors in this evaporation lag, providing a technical briefing on tire choice and pressure (PSI) that respects the actual state of the terrain, not just the sky.

The Future: Geospatial Dominance

BikeScout is evolving from a data aggregator into a terrain-simulation engine. By understanding the relationship between solar angles and soil memory, we are giving riders the ultimate tactical advantage: the ability to see the mud before they even reach the trailhead.

TAEL Logic is now integrated into the core server. Update your dependencies, restart your MCP instance, and run the telemetry.
