Hydration Scout is BikeScout’s bio-energetic engine. It solves the critical problem of "the wall" (bonking) by correlating geospatial effort with environmental thermal stress. Unlike generic calorie counters, it predicts the sweat rate and glycogen depletion specifically for off-road cycling conditions.
The Dynamic Fluid Model
The algorithm calculates hydration requirements by setting a baseline metabolic rate and adjusting it for every 5°C increase above the 20°C thermal threshold.
Hourly_Fluid = (Base_500ml + Heat_Adjustment) * Intensity_Multiplier
Glycogen Prediction
Intensity isn't just speed; it's a factor of vertical gain and technical terrain (HC climbs, technical singletracks). Hydration Scout categorizes intake into three tiers:
- Low Intensity (<40): 40g Carbs/hr (Endurance/Z2).
- Moderate Intensity (40-70): 60g Carbs/hr (Tempo/Trail).
- High Intensity (>70): 80g+ Carbs/hr (Legendary HC Climbs).
Tactical Advice & Safety
Hydration Scout monitors for "Metabolic Redlines". If the forecasted temperature exceeds 28°C or the mission duration crosses the 3-hour mark, the system automatically triggers an Electrolyte Critical alert, recommending sodium supplementation to prevent hyponatremia.
If (Temp > 28°C OR Duration > 3h): Trigger "Sodium Supplementation Needed"
